Acetic Acid - Overview
Acetic acid or vinegar acid (English: ethanoic acid) is one of the organic compounds in the group of alkanoic acids. [10] Concentrated acetic acid (called glacial acetic acid) is a colorless hygroscopic liquid, and has a freezing point of 16.7°C. Acetic acid is the main component of vinegar (3–9%) in addition to water. Acetic acid tastes sour and has a pungent odor. In addition to being produced for household consumption vinegar, acetic acid is also produced as a precursor to other compounds such as polyvinyl acetate and cellulose acetate.
